Welcome to the newly established 650 Bed University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC). It started in April 2013 as a turnkey project by Messrs Engineering and Development Consultants Limited of Israel, with Sheba Medical Centre, Israel, as the Medical Consultants. Phase I of the project was due for practical completion in November 2016 but due to a number of challenges the completion date has been shifted to July/August 2017.
As part of the project package, a total of about 71 Ghanaian health personnel have undertaken a short-term hands-on training at the Sheba Medical Centre. They are expected to form a critical mass of staff who are expected to offer training to staff to be engaged at the commencement of the Hospital. They will also be involved in the training of other staff who will be engaged later.
The UGMC promises to serve as a super tertiary Centre that will offer quaternary level medical services to patients. Its focus on training of pre-service and practising health professions, clinical research and service delivery will equip it to function at the highest level. Being the first of its kind in the sub-region, it is expected to receive patients not only across the country, but also from the sub-region and beyond. The state-of-the-art facilities for services in Assisted Reproductive Technology, Interventional Cardiology and Radiology, Pain Management, Cardiology, Gastroenterology etc will enable the UGMC become the Hospital of choice for medical tourism. Our relationship with Sheba Medical Centre and other health facilities of international repute will facilitate the acquisition of international accreditation.
So visit the UGMC on Legon campus when it becomes functional in due course and you will be assured of a comprehensive health package from our well trained, highly efficient and motivated staff.
